Addiction
Addictive Disorders
Mind altering drugs are just what the label says. Alcohol, cocaine, marijuana, and other recreational drugs enter the bloodstream and go directly to the brain thereby altering the chemical balance. Substance abuse is by far the leading cause of premature and preventable illness, disability, and death in our society. Mental illness can lead to drug and alcohol abuse, and the opposite is also true, drug and alcohol abuse can lead to serious mental illness. Addiction can occur at any age.
